Feelings & Time

Feelings can affect our perception of time.

Deadlines can help create a sense of momentum or dread. Our feeling about the approaching deadline affects our sense of time. Anticipation, enthusiasm and eagerness create the impression that time flies – we invite the day. Apprehension, dread or fear on the other hand, create the impression and hope that the day will never arrive – we resist the day.

How we feel about time is a huge factor in shaping the quality of our lives. What is it in your life that shapes the way you feel? What can you do to affect how you feel?

You have choice in how you recognize and interpret the cause, meaning and purpose of the feelings you are experiencing. You can choose how you allow your feelings to affect you – you can accept them or you can reject them. Denying your feelings (I am not feeling this) does not mean you are not feeling this. It just means that you are not willing or able to acknowledge those feelings felt. Acknowledging feelings experienced may require you to accept responsibility which, in turn, may require you to respond accordingly.

We can harness the information our feelings offer if we see them in that light. Just like our sense of touch that warns us if something’s too hot; too cold – rough or soft; our feelings tell us what we like and what we don’t like. Things we like, make us feel good and give us energy; things we don’t like, turn us off and steal our energy.

Try tuning into your feelings. Recognize and experience them. Acknowledge them for the information about you they bring to your attention; then, let them go. What a wonderful communications device our feelings are.
